IGOTCHI v.1.1.1

iGotchi is a virtual pet for the iPhone that uses the same tried and true virtual pet system and adds a specialized touch to it. The app isn't going to be a breakthrough in the world of virtual pets, but it's definitely a nice touch for the first iPhone app of this type.

The game gives you a little ball of fluff complete with two legs. You can change the name, gender, and color of your poof ball when you first create them, giving it your own style. Once the game loads up, your virtual pet is standing right there waiting for some attention. Touching the screen makes the iGotchi move in the direction of your touch as if you were petting it. Plus this gives you some love points.

You need to keep an eye on a few attributes as your iGotchi progresses. Nothing complicated either, but you'll need to follow along with all of the alerts and different needs that it has. You can also head to the store and purchase anything from cheeseburgers to bowler hats depending on how much iGotchi money you've got.

The game does progress even when the app isn't open, but that's all just based on the time. You do need to check back in on it to see how it's been doing and if it needs anything because it can die. Keep in mind that if it dies, you can get a new one, but after so many it resets everything because you're a bad parent. If you're a virtual pet fan, check this app out. But keep in mind, it's no Tamagotchi.

DINER DASH v1.0

If you’re a casual gamer, you could be familiar with Diner Dash or similar games on other platforms. If not, this is a multitasking game in the vein of Tapper. A game that tests your multitasking skills may not sound appealing, but once you get going, you’ll see that it can be a lot of fun.
The premise is quite simple. You play the role of a woman who quit her office job in order to pursue her dream of becoming a restaurateur. In career mode, you start out with a basic diner. As you serve customers on a daily basis and make money, you are able to make upgrades to the restaurant.
There are simple steps to serving your customers. First, you seat them (bonus if you can color-match them to a seat). Next, you take their order, drop off the ticket, and bring them their food. Finally, you give them their check, pick up their dishes, and drop off the dirty dishes to make the table ready for the next customer. The premise is basic, but it gets challenging as your restaurant expands with more tables and more customers. There are bonuses for efficiency (chain bonus for completing similar actions in sequence). There are different customer types and new items become available along your career.
There’s also an endless shift mode where instead of following the daily operation of your business in career mode, you’re endlessly serving customers until you anger enough of them to end the game.
The iPhone interface is pretty much ideal for a game like this, as you tap and drag customers around and tap on different stations to perform different tasks. The iPhone definitely keeps up with gameplay.
I enjoyed this game and do see myself going back to it. It’s something that you can pick up quickly and doesn’t require a huge time commitment either.

Cronk v1.0.1

This game from Cronk Games, Inc. features a train of boulders of different colors moving around a path. Your job as Cronk the Caveman is to toss boulders of the same color to get three or more boulders of the same color in a row. When you do this, those boulders disappear. If you can eliminate all of the boulders in a given path and save Cronk's village, you gain points and move to a higher level of play.

Cronk has a fun soundtrack and good sound effects, and occasional earthquakes make it even more difficult for Cronk to toss his boulder into the right spot in the "rockslide".

The game is on sale for $4.99 for a limited time, down from the usual price of $7.99. If I were to make a recommendation to the developers, it would be to drop Cronk's price to $2.99 or less -- that's where another Zuma clone, BlackBeard's Assault, sits price-wise. BLOCK BREAKER DELUX v1.0

The high tide of Breakout clones crashing onto the blue ocean of iPhone gaming has begun to ebb, but not before cresting with Block Breaker Deluxe 2. Atari's own finds serious competition in this flashy block busting title that proves old gameplay mechanics can find new life with touch controls and a high resolution screen. While you won't encounter any dramatic innovations, enough additions have been made to keep these waters fresh.

At its core, the game sticks to the classic Breakout formula by granting control of a platform for deflecting a small bouncing ball on the screen. The goal is to break every block to complete each stage, which is often easier stated than actually done. Some blocks require multiple hits, others are permanent fixtures, and intricate formations pose a real challenge in clearing the screen.

Sliding your finger along the bottom of the screen or tilting the handset (when the accelerometer option is toggled) enables you to position the pad. The accelerometer fares well, although we prefer using the touchscreen for control since it allows for greater precision and responsiveness.

Power-ups and power-downs bring dimension to the game. Red items recovered from broken blocks offer negative effects such as reducing the width of your platform or causing you to instantly lose a life. Blue power-ups benefit you with protective shields, missiles for destroying groups of blocks, and even multiple balls bouncing across the screen.
